So, we thought it would be a grand idea to offer some job search assistance for anyone who might want to find a job, here in fabulous Key West, and move to our island paradise!
For those who are seeking a job, the food and beverage industry is always booming here in Key West, so if you have any type of restaurant server or bartending experience, there are so many bars, restaurants, pubs, cafes, and so forth, in Key West, not to mention all of the hotels, motels, timeshare resorts, and vacation resorts, which also have a need for good food and beverage people!
Since Key West is somewhat of a “party town,” you can make a very handsome living as a waiter, waitress, cocktail server, or bartender!
If you have experience (or an interest) in other facets of the hotel or hospitality industry, there are many other jobs in hotels and resorts around the island; from housekeeping, front desk, night auditor, security, maintenance, and management, to sales and marketing, event sales, group sales, concierge, guest services, lifeguards, and the list goes on! This is a place where you will find a job so quick it will make your head spin, AND if you can pass a drug test and a criminal background check, you will really have your choice of awesome jobs!
There are also many driving jobs available, whether you want to drive a bus for the Key West Transit folks, or perhaps as a driver who entertains and drives the tourists around on a trolley or train for the famous Historic Tours. Then there are several taxi cab companies, or you can earn cash as a pedi-cab driver, who gets loads of sunshine and exercise pedaling around on a bike attached to a seat on wheels for two! Just get a Florida Driver’s License and you will be on your way to a fun and profitable job!
As previously mentioned, if you can pass a drug test and a criminal background check, then you can have your pick of good jobs in Key West, ranging from working for the U.S. Postal Service, The City of Key West, Monroe County, The State of Florida, at the Key West International Airport, or at one of the big name resorts in Key West!
If you cannot pass those tests, no worries, because there are still many jobs available for people with a pulse.
If you have some sales experience and good communication ability, there are loads of art galleries, fancy jewelry stores, as well as a few car dealerships, a newspaper, and a few radio stations, most of which need good professional sales people! Selling expensive art work or jewelry can be an extremely lucrative job for those with the skills. Just get out there and talk to some of the shop owners and managers!
Some of the bigger hotels and resorts also have a sales department, and this can be a lucrative opportunity for someone who is not afraid to talk to people, both face to face, as well as over the phone!
There are some timeshare sales jobs for people who have, or who are willing to obtain, a Florida Real Estate License! There are also many other great jobs, where you will receive an hourly pay PLUS commissions, whether you want to sell tickets to various attractions, work on some of the charter boats, assist people with their beach chair rentals, or working at a snack bar, or in a gift shop at one of the resorts.
There are several places where tourists can rent bikes, mopeds, golf carts, and all of these places need good people to work dealing with the tourists. In some cases you can earn an hourly wage plus commissions.
Then there are the various Key West tourist attractions, which also have jobs that are fun and lucrative… you can give guided walking tours of the Hemingway House or the Harry S. Truman Little White House. These folks get a nice hourly wage plus they often get tips from many of the daily visitors. Maybe you’d like to entertain people at the Shipwreck Museum, or greet people at the Key West Aquarium.
Do you sing, dance, juggle, tell jokes, or perform magic? For those who have a talent and who are enterprising, you can obtain a street performer license or a street vendor permit, at the Key West City Hall, and make some money working your own hours, and being your own boss. There are street performers on Duval Street raking in $50,000 to $100,000 a year!
When people get off of the cruise ships, there are a few guided walking tours, where a tour guide escorts a group of day visitors to various pubs, bars, et cetera. These tour guides get paid and make lots of money in tips. It’s also a seemingly fun job!
Speaking of tips, there are tip jars, cans, boxes and buckets, all over the island, and many people who live and work here actually receive tips. You even see gift shops where there is a tip jar, and tourists really do drop money into them!
The amount and variety of jobs in Key West goes on and on. There are no shopping malls, but there are several big retail chain stores where you might choose to obtain employment.
If YOU want to move to Key West, then you should do it! Life is too short to deny yourself the simple pleasures and life is too short to be stuck living in a state, county, city, or town that you hate! If you’re in the freezing northern states, and you want to start a new life in a warm, tropical climate, then come on down!
